Any of the belden based + canare contact cables is as good as it gets .

Several different brands makes them BJ cables or Marcus cables or the
ones you discovered on ebay .

I got the Marcus cable variant but they are the same .

That sorts you digital cable issue for a very modest cost , stay away
from the more esoteric cables they only cost £££ for nothing basically
.

At the opposite end of the spectrum people have successfully used
chicken wire or coat hangers :) and they still get error free
connection over the short distances we have at home .

For a long spdif run from another room 75ohm catv cable is useful .

My most expensive digital cable (an audioquest, yes I'm joined the AA
anonymous audiophiles) performed the worst .

Not in SQ but in shielding , I used to live in apartment where I had a
slightly broken light switch it arced when i used it and this arc
produced audible clicks and pops trough the spdif interface .(an arc
gives away wide band rf )

Belden or the Supra Trico cable was immune to this effect .
Proving that that AQ cable was just fancy jewelry with rubbish
shielding.
But it had silver contacts very important for a digital signal ;)

Depending on the DAC or the rest of the system don't count out the
toslink interface the optocouplers can be a bit shoddy but you get
galvanic isolation that can be a good thing.

Just don't get trapped into "listening" to different coax cables :-/
