Talk about misdirected priorities. Most of the recordings released the past several years in the old-fashioned 16/44.1 CD format don't make use of the quality presently available. A CD has the capability of a 96 dB dynamic range, yet how many releases have the entire performance crammed into 10 dB or less? This is an intentional decision on the part of the record companies, their artists and producers. Nothing about 24/384 will improve that situation. They've already got a sharp knife, yet they are making recordings with a hatchet. Giving them a surgeon's scalpel won't change a thing. I've already got some incredible recordings on CD. Ever hear the Angel recording "Silks and Rags" by the Great American Main Street Band? A gorgeous recording of Scott Joplin and other composers of the ragtime era. It would be difficult to imagine what one would want from a recording that this CD doesn't offer. I'd gladly forsake 24/96 and more for a good supply of CDs this well recorded. More technology is not the answer to good recordings when they don't use what they already have. -- mlsstl ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mlsstl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9598 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89733 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
