I went out of my way last night and applied your mods. Why did I do it, if I was already happy with the 'vanilla' TT3.0? Here is why: I've upgraded my interconnects last week, after which I've experienced not-so-subtle change in the sound of my system. Many previously unheard musical details emerged -- it is obvious that upgrading your interconnects is an important step up in achieving better sound. However, there was trouble in paradise -- the sound quality veered off toward overly 'clinical' presentation. By 'clinical' I mean aseptic. It is as if you were to shine a super bright source of light at the object you're observing. Too sharp with almost unbearable lucid presence. Somehow, the charm and the overall organic quality of the sound got replaced by this super precise, cold and heartless engineered projection. This impression was confirmed after I've switched back to my old interconnects. The sound immediately reverted back to its organic charm, only this time it was noticeably 'wooly'. So, in my book, organic sound == good, but organic and wooly == bad. On the other hand, silky sound == good, but silky and clinical == bad. What I wanted is organic and silky. So just for a lark, I've applied your mods, and lo and behold, I think I'm now reaping the benefits of having laser sharp precision combined with the organic, warm and silky overall sound quality. I don't know what you did there (although I wouldn't mind if someone would go through the trouble of breaking it down in layman's terms), but it does seem to offer the best of both worlds. Needless to say, I'm keeping my new, razor sharp interconnects, as they seem to play rather nicely with the upstream adjustment to the transport. This is especially noticeable with percussion, especially with cymbals, tambourines, etc. They now sound super precise while at the same time having this silky warm shimmer. Any traces of metallic overtones are definitely gone. I've confirmed this after playing Japanese SHMCD master of Sade's "Frankie's First Affair", which always had super aggressive presence of cymbals. The cymbals were apparently recorded very hot, and then further emphasized during the post production and mastering. It was always kind of painful to listen to the cymbals on that track, but now finally the harsh edge is gone and the sheer musicality of the track remains. Congratulations, I think your approach was overly successful:) But as Guido said, it is all too dependent on how are other components in your system balanced. In my case, this change hit the sweet spot, so thank you! -- magiccarpetride ------------------------------------------------------------------------ magiccarpetride's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37863 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
