One of the reasons that I decided to start this thread is to hopefully be able to use the information posted in this thread as way to fight back against the overpriced BS the continually spews from so many high end audio manufacturers.
Check out the link below for what I think is going to be the next major battleground in the on going "audio wars". You know the war which pits common sense, sound engineering practices and reasonably priced equipment against nonsense, voodoo engineering and over priced eye candy. http://www.avguide.com/blog/ces-2012-report-steven-stone-digital-products?utm_campaign=Weekly%20Email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=email-304&utm_content=TAS%20Editors%20Report%20on%20CES%202012 Go to the bottom of page 2 and then onto page 3 to see all the high end music servers which are now appearing on the market. What I would like to know is just how expensive does the receiver end of a music streaming server have to be (I'm assuming that the transmitter end of music streaming server is just one's router, please correct me if I'm wrong) for it to have the ability to feed a bit perfect data stream to a DAC? In addition to the Squeezebox devices that I own I also have a $99 WD TV Live Plus Network Media Player which I use to stream video. This little device will also play music although it has no library features and therefore is not as useful as a SB Touch. Aren't all these mega-buck media streamers just these $99 media streamers dressed up in fancy clothes? Yes or no. -- ralphpnj Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels -> Snatch -> The Transporter -> Transporter 2 (oops) -> Touch 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/jazzfann/) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93111 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
