I'm no techie but as I understand it the mods are basically focused on turning off many unnecessary functions that would otherwise tax the limited processing power that the SB Touch has. For example making sure that files are coded to PCM on the server, not the Touch, disabling the Touch screen (assuming you have other means of remote control), forcing use of an ethernet connection rather than asking the Touch to run a wireless function.
All the changes are easily reversible (a factory reset takes you straight back to where you started). I've tried them and was pleasantly surprised - ambience and depth and clarity all seem better.
