You can download a test CD from here: http://tech.ebu.ch/publications/sqamcd On that CD, track #27 "Castanets (single tone-rhythm) (Stereo)" has a dynamic range of 26. Other than test CDs, the highest DR tracks I have are some classical orchestra stuff at 21db. My highest rock/pop track, at 20db, is Dire Straits "So Far Away" from -Brothers in Arms- (1985 first pressing). However, this pressing does not sound quite right to me - it is too bright and somewhat fatiguing to listen to. I prefer sound of the 1995 Warner remaster of this album. I also have the SACD, which sounds really good, but only the SACD layer. The redbook layer of the SACD is a total loudness/overcompression disaster. You can peruse the DR measurements of the various pressings here: http://dr.loudness-war.info/index.php?search_artist=dire+straits&search_album=brothers -- Henry66 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Henry66's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38863 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86519 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
