One possibility is that you damaged the internects somehow. I have had it happen that you break the conductor inside, but it is just barely not connected, its so close it forms a capacitor which cuts off the bass. Such a situation will be very sensitive to position of the cable, moving things around will either make the connection normal, or no sound at all.
It could also be a broken solder joint in the connector (cable, or Touch), again usually wigling things around will change it.
