Yep, I believe a Logitech Touch is better as a DAC than you will find
for $300.

If you go a little higher, the new -Dac Magic 100- at $359 might be an
improvement. Uses a Wolfson DAC for a really nice mellow sound.

A -Schiit Bifrost Dac- also at $350 is a pretty good improvement, and
uses a DAC in the same family as the Touch. Soundstage, depth, and
percussion makes the music sound much more interesting through this
DAC.

Im listening to a Touch using a $459 -PeachTree DAC*IT- and it is very
significant improvement over the built in DAC. This uses an ESS "Saber"
DAC and makes the Touch competitive with - much -more expensive CD
transports. :D

Of course, all that is dependent on the rest of your system too. One
DAC or the other might sound a lot better to you, depending upon what
you like to listen to. All three above are really good budget DACs
(even though the Peachtree is twice the price of a Touch, it is still a
"budget" DAC. )

I tried one of these, fairly nice sound for the price. But it was no
better than a Touch, and the unit I had insisted on producing a rifle
sharp crack each time the sample rate changed. Note you cannot return
this DAC either, as it is on "closeout." I would not recommend it.

The Touch is, in my opinion, quite superior to this DAC. I would not
even consider it.
