The fact that a claim hasn't (or can't) be proved or disproved, doesn't make it equally likely to be as true as not. I can't prove that there are not fairies living at the bottom of my garden, but that doesn't mean there is a 50% chance they exist. The point is that we must pick and choose the hypotheses we test, and those we ignore. Otherwise we end up wasting a lot of time, and life is too short. There *is* harm in this sort of thing, if people are encouraged to look at propositions like those repeated ad nauseum in this thread and ask the question "why not?" instead of the correct question, which is "why?". OK, if it all remains in the realm of hifi, nobody's going to die, but it can certainly harm the sound quality of people's systems, by diverting attention away from addressing real problems like speaker/room issues. The problem with the internet is that anyone can say anything, and the only quality control possible is others challenging outlandish statements. The problem with SBGK is that he completely ignores the challenges to what he says, and just repeats the same things over and over again. Admonishing people for not having tried his "tweaks" themselves is completely beside the point, given the utter unreliability of human perception in these matters. Of course, we are all at liberty to do exactly what we like with our Squeezeboxes, but if anyone makes unlikely claims in a public forum, and the refuses to back them up, conclusions can be drawn. -- darrell ------------------------------------------------------------------------ darrell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13460 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91322 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
