I understanding and believe that the actual bitstream (1's and 0's)
cannot be altered.

As Phil has recently mentioned, there's the possibility that some of
the TT3.0 mods influence the inner workings of the Touch as relates to
what's coming out of the Touch's analog outputs. But that's not what
I'm interested in hearing about.

If people are merely using the Touch as a digital transport---connected
to a dac via coax or toslink----is there an explanation, other than the
much-discussed jitter question, for why there are such a number of
people here that seem to hear differences with the TT 3.0 modifications
and, more specifically, with changes to the priorities and buffer sizes.
Is there any reason---real or even theoretically---that, for lack of a
better word---something like noise would be transmitted to the dac
along with the bitstream and somehow find it's way from the Touch,
through the dac's processes, into to the dac's analog output, and on to
be manifested in audible changes?

Before some of the posters here go all "holier than thou" I'm aware of
the following:

1. This has been asked before, but it's been a while and newer people
won't be bothered to read through all the history.

2. One of the things that seems baffling to the non-technical amongst
us is that engineers and designers of dacs, amps, and speakers seem to
always be able to claim alterations and improvements to their products'
sound (while not claiming alterations to the bitstreams). The logical
follow-on to this, for a numpty, is that if all these tech-types,
product reviewers, etc. say that this or that change in
software/firmware/hardware can purportedly alter how the music sounds
for the better, then why can't altering these same types of items in
the Touch do the same?

NOTE: Please don't post replies along the lines of "they hear it
because they're naive, stupid, gullible, cargo-cult believing fools".
If this is the best you can come up with, keep it to yourselves. As
one fellow here essentially said, trying to pass off rudeness under the
guise of cleverness is still rudeness. It will certainly attract more
reasonable and curious people to this hobby by having some patience,
and educating and explaining as opposed to eye-rolling, disgust, and
insults.
