Hi everyone... I hope by asking this question I'm not being "ageist" or some such label. It really is out of curiosity and hopefully interpretation of what is said and published in a public fashion.
We all know that audio reviewing is a subjective affair, therefore it is reasonable I think to know something about the reviewer when we read stuff in Stereophile or TAS, etc. Furthermore, we know that cognitive and perceptual abilities deteriorate with age; high frequency hearing essentially universally deteriorates with age, memory (especially auditory memory) likewise deteriorates. I'm 40 now and have 15-20 years under my belt with audiophile equipment. I have experienced a good amount of equipment in that time and sometimes as I read what some reviewers write (especially in computer audio), I really wonder from what era they're from... Some seem to be so out of touch with technology or even technophobic about computer sources and streaming devices that one feels they obviously didn't grow up with the stuff and has negative biases as a result, or worse intellectual embarrassment such that he/she would reject something instead of taking the time to learn and adapt. Ultimately I guess it doesn't matter too much about the actual age since reviews are more entertainment than science but that doesn't stop the curiousity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Archimago's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2207 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94485 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
