At a certain point in belief systems, the "belief" becomes paramount. 
It is independent of direct real evidence, and the believers value the
"believing experience" very highly.  "It is my experience, it is
precious to me, it is therefore true".  We see this, of course, in most
religious traditions, and it's the source much of the intractable
ideologically-based conflict in the world.

Excuse the audiophilia believers -- it's a far less damaging forum for
expression of data-independent true belief than many of the
alternatives.
