I'm more or less sure that the spdiff standard is such that the formats is like 16bit + 8 optional bits so some older DAC's can truncate at 20 or 16 bits or maybe it's receiving chip can understand even if the DAC is not cabaple . Like the SB3 and another squeezebox it's always 24bit on the oust even using 16bit data they just stuffed 8 zeros from lsb and up . However if you start to use the digital volume controll on the squeezebox they come into play . Hence with such an old DAC that may not be 24 bit I would always keep the volume on the Squeezbox at 100% However if get a Touch you may face the issue that spdiff is one way protocol Touch will happily send 24/96 down the line . You have to write a custom-convert.file to tell the server to downsample . On the other hand if you pick up Touch listen to it's analog output too it migth surprise you . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72018 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
