yes, it can. This said, the squeezeboxes have a very well implemented digital volume control. The players are all receiving 24 bit stream even though most music being streamed is 16/44.1. So this is a good thing for using digital volume control (the use of the extra stuff between 16 and 24). Many folks think you should keep you digital volume at about 70-75% at the lowest. If you're at 50% volume you are certainly losing "bits". This may not (probably not) audible, but it is happening. I like using the digital volume control. I set the preamp volume control such that with the SB player at 100% volume it is a bit louder than I'd ever listen. Then I back off on the digital volume down to as low as 70% and adjust up and down accordingly for my casual listening (90% of my listening time). If I'm doing "serious" listening, I set digital volume to 100% and do all volume control with my preamp. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96760 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
