+1 ,but just not with softsqueeze use one of the other softplayers i
suggest squeezelite .

NB ,you will have the usual problems with a pc based solution (that just
works with a squeezebox , that is why have squeezeboxes in the first
place) ,bypassing mixer ensure bitperfect playback etc .

None of the softplayers can fully replace a hardware squeezebox , you
will always find some limitation or corner case when a certain soft
player won't do what you want .
For example some subscription services requires a real hardware
squeezebox.
Notice that is by coincident you can sometimes register a softplayer on
mysqueezebox.com they are not officially supported there .
(Squeezelite will support triodes spotify plugin btw )

Most decent dac's have both usb and spdiff inputs and installing EDO is
not that complex if really insist on using usb .

There is nothing that supports the assertion that usb input on a dac is
always better it is so implementation dependent , it can be the other
way around too .

So first get a dac that performs to your liking don't limit the search
to usb only models ? after you found your prefered dac then it may be
time to worry (or not) about which of inputs to use if it has multiple
inputs avaible.
