I am have spoken too soon. I did a google search for bit perfect digital iPod dock and following the results I learned that digital docks for the iPod (remember this is only for the iPod and not the iPhone although the iPhone may work the same) do indeed pass through a bit perfect signal to the DAC. Based on that it would seem that the problem, yet again, lies somewhere else. Perhaps the iPhone is modifying the various streams in some way or the streams themselves are being modified to work with the iPhone.
