Doesn't this depend on what you mean by "audiophile"? 

An "audiophile" is a lover of "high quality audio reproduction" which in
fact is the first line of the Wikipedia entry; nothing more. Our world
views however then dictates the relative merits of the hardware,
software, possibility of improvements with doing this or that. Each one
of us will have to stand by our beliefs from that point on and the
experiences in life will shape what we're able / willing to believe.

When you say "Frankly, you have little experience as an audiophile..."
you seem to imply we all have some kind of common definition.
