The basic tradeoff  is more or less buffering. The network load will
stay pretty much the same (the packet overhead is not significant - it
is the amount of data that needs to be transferred that is the
determining factor), but what you can do is trade track/album startup
delay for protection against mid-track dropouts. If you aren't getting
dropouts mid-track, increasing buffering/delay isn't really buying you
anything.
