Speaker cable comparison falls into that category because the laws of
physics tell us that the transfer function of pretty much any old piece
of wire is identical to any other piece of wire at audio frequencies.
(Meaningful differences only appear at much higher frequencies).

A practical confirmation of this is readily available in Archimago's
blog entry where he actually *measured* whether there was any difference
between a supposedly high-end speaker cable and some rat's nest of
cobbled-together bits and pieces. (See here:

Guess what? There was no measurable difference. Indeed, the one and only
instance were a difference was measured was when he accidentally left an
empty plastic box on top of the speaker and that influenced the
soundfield by orders of magnitude more than any change in cables. Do
these kind of results make you reconsider your current beliefs? If not,
what sort of measurement *would* make you think again?
