Summary for Benchmark: no ability to reliably detect any difference between either the Transporter internal DAC vs Benchmark DAC or the Touch internal DAC vs Benchmark DAC. By the way, I *keep* the Benchmark DAC because I moved it to the beach cottage in a small Touch-based system where I like the ability to use the balanced outputs of the Benchmark in my connections. Summary for CD Player vs Network Streaming: no ability to detect any difference (controlling for different DACs, internal vs external, etc.) Summary for Codecs: depends. Eventually I can create low enough bit rate lossy files to detect differences. And how low depends on the nature of the music. In all cases the significance tests above I recall that the p-values were quite high (not able to reject the null hypotheses of "no difference") except in some of the CODEC tests where I could reject the null with p-values < .05. Of course to some audiophiles the above can be summarized by simply reporting that "my system is not revealing enough" *Home:* VortexBox 4TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win7(64) > LMS 7.9 > Squeezelite *Spares:* Touch(3), Radio(3), Boom, SB3, CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng8 & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win7(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpoweramp > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify ------------------------------------------------------------------------ garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103842 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
