Well let's just look at this recent example from Garym who claims he
would never accept listening results unless they were carefully
controlled blind tests.

When asked for his results he cited many null results & some positive
result on low bitrate lossy codec
When asked for any non-null results of audio devices where he was able
to discern an audible difference in these tests, he could only cite ONE
- a computer's line out Vs a feed to a DAC. He made excuses that he
seldom tests audio devices yet he started his posting on this thread
with the bullish claim that no listening except carefully controlled
blind listening was acceptable to him.

It doesn't give anyone great hope that these home administered blind
tests are in any way useful at discerning differences, does it? So
"essentially worthless" would be the phrase Garym used.

I find lots of these sorts of statements made - "*if they are not
carefully constructed double-blind tests, then they are essentially
worthless" *& yet when questioned, it quickly emerges that it's a belief
system that they apply to others but if truth be told, not to themselves
- "*Then again I rarely have any reason to do tests on my audio stuff"*.
