Folks,
I'd be nervous about storing anything important enough to require backup, on
a local "C" drive on desktop or dockable systems. With few exceptions
desktop systems are woefully insecure, period.
Best bet for the sensitive important stuff is to vault electronically over
the wire to a storage appliance or SAN solution. And it's not too difficult
to lock down permissions on this type of solution to a barebones minimum.

Stan Dormer

Jim,
The majority of the City is connected to networks that are maintained by
our Information Technology department -- they back up daily. Our "C" drive
is the hard drive on our individual PC's. The "H" drive is our personal
drive on the network. The "G" drive is on the network, too, but shared by
our staff. Our policy is to store data on the "H" drive -- the trade off
is that our Infor. Technology folks could access that data there and thus we
lose some confidentiality. But the chances are fairly remote and can be
controlled by using the "C" drive temporarily.
We have no specific software for backing up our C drives.

Subject: Back Up Software
In light of the recent events I thought it might be timely to find out what
software auditors are using to back up their data. I currently have both a
CD-RW drive and an internal Zip drive. Running in Windows 2000 I have found
the MS Backup to be less than adequate when it comes to backing up (and
restoring) data. If anyone has any backup software that they could recommend
I would appreciate it.
