There is a set of best practice standards called the IT Infrastructure
Library (ITIL) that covers the critical area of service delivery and
service support. It breaks each of these areas down into sub-components
like: trouble shooting, configuration and release management, help desk,
financial control etc. You can download self assessment (Excel)
documents from the Office of Government Commerce at
http://www.ogc.gov.uk/index.asp?docid=1343. The printed practices in
book form can be found in the IT section of the site, sub-section
guidance. You will also find useful links to other guidance and
governance materials at our website at
http://www.ink-e-media.com/links.htm. You might also want to consider
the ISO Standard called FCAPS which covers operational matters like
fault diagnosis, configuration, accountability, performance and security
(hence FCAPS).

assessing the performance of the services provided by the vendor to the
lottery organisation. Are there any appropriate standards, best
