Either I don't understand what you wrote well. If your remount /etc didn't exit, then I'd sugget you to try "-i" which makes mount(8) to ignore /sbin/mount.aufs. About many EINVAL you wrote, if you try ls(1) or something during remount is running, then most of operation will return error obviously. J. R.
