I don't think it is a "core" feature of overlayfs, because it just supports only two layers. If overlayfs didn't support the nested overlayfs mount, it would be poor. About the lacking of several "core" features in overlayfs, I've posted to LKML. (Here I use "core" as essential features of ordianary filesystem). By the way, have you tried the nested overlayfs with whiteout and opaque which are xattr. I'd like to know if it is working well. J. R.
