Hi everyone! - oops! I have send a draft! Very sorry :( I really confused with this task. I need to run a slightly customized Debian Squeeze (stable) booting/running on/from USB stick. Problem is well known - to many writes on USB. Some one (on hup.hu) recommend me the unionfs (he was use it for diskless routers using CF modules) he was setup a union for /var and using tmpfs for /tmp. I have realized that in kernel-2.6.32-5 (for Squeeze) using aufs as a module (unionfs still exist only as a patch). /tmp is mounted as tmpfs, so it's living I have read man, aufs html documentation but I have still do not understand how to construct the command for making ro /var to be a unified with /tmp/var wr so in result every files in /var are seen by system but writes to /var goes to ramdisk/tmpfs ... Should I make a separate ram disk (different from /tmp which is tmpfs)? What the correct syntax for this branch(?). Can I put it to fstab? Should I built a new initrd? I read documentation and man several time, but some how I have could not stick things together - feel so dumb. May be you can suggest something more detailed description how does it should work, and how to construct the appropriate command.
