Dear all,

I have been using unionFS on a FreeBSD NAS until I switched
to Debian Squeeze (2.6.32-5-amd64) and thus changed to
auFS.

My aim is to merge three directories into one which can be
shared by samba and, if possible, AFP:

   /media/ca5ce62f-c833-405f-b084-d7a851f0582d/aufs (rw)
   /media/1a319890-bf3e-4d97-93d2-436d301c48a3/media (ro)
   /media/1a319890-bf3e-4d97-93d2-436d301c48a3/music (ro)
   /media/ca5ce62f-c833-405f-b084-d7a851f0582d/mediashare
(used as share)

Under Debian I installed auFS as follows:

               apt-get install aufs-tools

And mounted the filesystem as root with the following command:

               mount -t aufs -o
br=/media/ca5ce62f-c833-405f-b084-d7a851f0582d/aufs:/media/1a319890-bf3e-4d97-93d2-436d301c48a3/music:/media/1a319890-bf3e-4d97-93d2-436d301c48a3/media
none /media/ca5ce62f-c833-405f-b084-d7a851f0582d/mediashare

When I check the mounted filesystems with df everything
seems ok (ie it could be mounted):

               Dateisystem          1K-Blöcke   Benutzt Verfügbar Ben%

I can access the directory mediashare as root without
problems, but when I want
to access it with another user I get the following error:

   ls mediashare/
               ls: Öffnen von Verzeichnis mediashare/ nicht möglich:
Keine Berechtigung // ls: Cannot open directory mediashare/
not possible: No premissions

When I check the permissions of the directory the following
is shown,
before mounting auFS:

               getfacl mediashare/
   # file: mediashare/
   # owner: root
   # group: root
   user::rwx
   user:U:r-x
   user:W:rwx
   user:V:r-x
   user:Z:r-x
   user:Y:r-x
   user:X:r-x
   user:nobody:---
   group::rwx
   group:XY:r-x
   mask::rwx
   other::rwx
   default:user::rwx
   default:user:U:r-x
   default:user:W:rwx
   default:user:Z:r-x
   default:user:Y:r-x
   default:user:X:r-x
   default:user:V:r-x
   default:user:nobody:---
   default:group::rwx
   default:group:XY:r-x
   default:mask::rwx
   default:other::rwx

after mounting auFS:

   getfacl mediashare/
   # file: mediashare/
   # owner: root
   # group: root
   user::rwx
   group::rwx
   other::---

It is apparent that auFS overrides my ACL permissions. Is
this a bug or is ACL not supported in auFS?
I hope you can shed some light on, and, maybe, provide a
solution to this problem, since it is keeping me from
sharing my data..

Many thanks for your support.

Regards
Michael
