Specify: noplink in the mount command and you will still have limited usability with the loss of many of the options (which are parsed in the mount helper). There are some distributions, which use auFS in their "Live CD" versions, that do not include the utils. But about all they can do is create a basic auFS layer stack (which is all they need to do in a "Live CD").
