I'll give a shot later. BTW, I followed your hints (editing syslogd.conf and changing the printk value via proc) but no debug message showed up inside of the kernel logs. I had to manually load the aufs kernel module with 'debug=1' in order to see the debug statements. Did I do something stupid/wrong?
