Actually I was already using loop-aes as-is, and I thought this was the problem. The patch was only applied to the "original kernel loop.ko", which was later overwritten by the unpatched "loop-aes loop.ko". So the BUG was actually caused by an incompatibility between aufs 3.10.x and "unpatched" loop-aes. I was planning on porting the aufs3-loopback.patch and see if it resolved my issue but if you say it's actually unnecessary, I'm not sure what to do next...
