It is definitly old, but I am unsure this is related to your
problem. Because aufs-util is not update so often. But I am sure you (or
ubuntu users) cannot use several new features and commands.

Anyway I will wait for the results of the added fsck for testing and I
hope it will discover when ext2 is corrupted.
