But /proc/mounts in the tarball is a symlink and I cannot see the
contents.  According to sys/fs/aufs/si_*/brN entries, I can see your
branches are /cow=rw and /live/image=rr, and you already wrote you have
NFSROOT.  So your /live/image is nfs and your /cow is tmpfs or
something, right?  NFSv4 or v3?

According to your boot/config-4.19.0-6-amd64, your kernel version is
4.19.67.  Which version are you using exactly?

We have to track down the behaviour of man(1) more deeply, because no
suspicious systemcall was found.  What made man(1) causes an error, any
library funcion?
