These gliders all have their aerial in the rudder (fin is carbon fibre) and
at the base of rudder is a BNC connector for disconnecting aerial.

Regretfully when the rudder is removed & replaced the BNC connection should
be fully taped up with self amalgamating tape. Over the years without this
protection water from tail ballast soakes into connector &  cable &  green
will occur on connector and internals of the RG 58 Coax. This results in
aerial SWR of 3 to 1 or worse. Ideally a glider SWR is 1.3 to 1.5 to 1
ratio but 2 to 1 is acceptable in Aviation.

This results in very reduced radio range.

Warning if you see green (copper or brass or SWR is poor) then you may have
to consider visiting a repairer or using a rubber ducky aerial in cockpit
and forget the aerial in rudder.
