All I got was the story in "The Namibian"
http://www.namibian.com.na/index.php?id=140771&page=archive-read
I wouldn't be surprised if the white folks in Namibia spoke German and/or Afrikaans.

Also found this interesting German accident report on the crash of an Eta while spin testing in 2003
http://www.bfu-web.de/EN/Publications/Investigation%20Report/2003/Report_03_3X221-Eta-Bueching.pdf?__blob=publicationFile

Didn't they do this again with the NimEta about 3 years ago?

Interesting the comments about the fuselage layup (do Binder do their own layup or do they buy assemblies from Schleicher) and the overlooking of the maximum loads on the fin with rudder deflected (now fixed). That's why the fin fell off an American Airlines Airbus. Which raises the question of a spin recovery with sideslip opposite to the rudder applied to recover from the spin possibly causing very high loads on the tailboom.

Also interesting thread in rec.aviation.soaring
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/?hl=en#!topic/rec.aviation.soaring/zGTU9nKPsMU

There's been another two seat motorglider upset/breakup in January this year in Namibia (Nimbus4DM). Both bailed out out OK.
Also a fatality in Ventus 2cxM around last Christmas.

Some silly comments, some very sensible in that r.a.s thread.
Spinning these very high performance gliders should be treated with great care. Best to recover from any incipient upset before it goes very far at all. Both good advice any time. Spinning is NOT a normal soaring manoeuvre. i.e. you don't need to do it to fly cross country. I think these large two seat motorgliders should be treated like airliners. Just fly normally in thermals and interthermal cruise. Anything else may rapidly become an emergency.

To me the more important issue is being able to review the accident report and findings, without having to subscribe to a reporter’s precis.

I have surfed around without luck.

Anyone got a good link to the accident report, or a brief description of the key links in the accident chain?

The official accident report clearly designates the glider as an ASH25 EB28 as does the German registration of the sailplane.

I agree with Bob, that any accident related to gliding the reports are important that we are for one reminded of the consequences of things that may go wrong , although sad that it is about people, friends who unfortunately lost their lives. We would all know some one close to us who has either died or serious injury from accidents, but we must have the information and conclusions as to the causes etc to be better pilots etc in the future. Gliding International is a fantastic magazine and full of relivent and interesting articles.
