In laymans terms

Is a distance thing and about seeing different noise

by comparing and differentiating two signals, its possible to get more signal
above the noise layer…its clever maths!

the further apart the better. the further away from any RF noise source the
better

its common in fixed wing to have on top of the fuze and one on the bottom which
is what the powerflarm was developed for

In a glider an aerial at each wing tip with would make the best sense as you
mostly want forward looking diversity and the wing tips would be low noise.

but given thats not generally possible and you would want pre-amps in each one
to account for cable loss its all bit impractical

so to get some separation, one of the turtle deck and one behind the engine bay
somewhere (not shielded by metal or carbon) would be productive.

I will stress this again, the best way to get the best distance is to have
really low RF noise levels on your power circuits and do not put anything RF
active anywhere near the Flarm antenna. GPS pucks should be at least 100mm away.

DO NOT using low cost voltage convertors EVER, NEVER EVER.

Do not put PDA devices with Flat Batteries in the cockpit expecting them to
charge from other devices.

Lots of PDA including older Oudies generate a truck load of noise…try putting a
hand held radio near any of them, turn the squelch down…you will see what I mean

Flarm transmits at very low power signals and the Rx signal is very easily
swamped.

If there is RF noise on the power rail, it will effect the Flarm receive
distance
