I am a little surprised that people still send Winter varios and ASIs for service to GA instrument shops and often these places run into trouble and call for help.

About every 15 to 20 years a Winter Vario is best sent back to Winter in Germany where they clean balance and bring up to the latest standard.  This costs DM120 to DM150 and is well worth while as you will be surprised how fast it will become again and it is usually back within the month. At the same time you might consider a new face which is very inexpensive  If it is only balance or rezeroing then I can do that in Australia.  Any old Winter is worth bringing back into service as new is expensive.

With ASIs the same applies and conversions of old Km/h or mph to new kts can be done at little expense - much less than people pay in Australia and much neater.  They are mutton dressed up as lamb but are very good.

For gliding centres that have many overseas visitors you can have a Kts face with also the main Km/h speeds on as well in another colour and small.  Also new faces can have zero either at top or bottom.

I have been dealing with Winter in Germany since December 1971 but you are welcome to send direct to
G Winter GmbH & Co KG

They will probably want payment in advance and the man to talk to is Achim Winter  tel 001149 7477 262 [EMAIL PROTECTED] or you can send via me as I have one or two packages leaving Winter each month.  I charge a 10% handling fee and there is 10% GST but you do not have to organise payment to them.  They do not accept credit card
