While I don't mind the now infamous "Boring" reports each week, here's a hint for any of the Clubs on this list who want to start their own Club-based e-mail list, to prevent things like the recent "Club Libelle" thread started by Caboolture GC. Check out www.yahoogroups.com which lets you create and maintain your own private or public e-mail forums. Southern Cross GC have used this for the last year for both a closed Committee list and a Members-only list. It is a really useful thing that has increased the Committee's ability to communicate with a large number of members very quickly (though paper mail and the clubhouse/pie-cart noticeboards are of course still used for those who aren't on the Internet) Once established, it's easy to maintain and use a Yahoo! Groups list, and there are plenty of features like archiving of message, member management, dealing with "bouncing" members, etc. Even simple surveys are possible. Best of all, you don't need to know the address of ALL those other Club members. You simply post to the list address, just like Aus-Soaring. That sure beats maintaining 100+ e-mail addresses in your personal address book (and likewise for the other 100+ members !!!) Club Secretaries / Web masters - why not check it out ? It's 100% FREE if you don't mind the small bit of advertising stuck at the bottom of each message on the list.
