At the few clubs I've flown, the weak link has always been at the tug end of
the rope.
I'd hate one of those metal "fuse" types of weak link to be flailing around
near the glider just after release... want as little mass out there as
possible, please. I guess the rope kind of weak link wouldn't do much harm
out there though.
And anything at that end of the rope wears out much faster, because it
spends a lot of time being dragged along the ground.
