In my job at Adelaide University I am constantly bombarded with
product information. Occasionally some of this stuff is really useful and
every now and again it is obvious to me that it is useful to the gliding
community as well. Two products I have recently come across fall into the
category of being useful to the gliding community. (Those not interested in
glider maintenance, hit the delete key now.)
The first is an adhesive lubricant in a spray can called CRC TAC 2.
It is a high pressure lubricant, rated down to -25 c. It is designed for
lubrication of chains, sliders and bearings in difficult locations. "Sound
familiar". It is designed to stick like "shit to blanket" and I think it could be
useful for lubricating all those hard to get at bearings in glider control
circuits. It is available from AE Bakers (Blackwoods) and all CRC outlets.
If anyone has any experience with this stuff or advice on it's use in gliders,
lets hear it.
The second is a product called "ATW Gas and Air Detecta Spray.
With corrosion inhibitor". It is a leak detecting spray designed for very
small leaks. Just like those annoying leaks in instrument plumbing and
static lines. Propelled by CO2, it produces a super stable foam at leaks.
It is available from Reece plumbing and again if anyone has any experience
with this stuff or advice on it's use in gliders, lets hear it.
