Managed to get flying again on Sunday after a few weeks off. New club record on winch launch into 15 - 20kt wind:
1 up in L13 Blanik 3,250ft (2,750 AGL) off 1800m strip (No kiting, honest!) What are some of the better launches from other winch clubs? The day: Strong gusts, 5 launches for the afternoon. Very broken thermals. Above 4000ft the air smoothed out and there was lift at least to 6,000ft, but still strong wind (20kt+). Like the previous post, rough as hell on approach, and it paid to have the harness nice and tight when a gust was on. One of our members is an ag pilot who has clocked up 100's hours recently on spray jobs commented at 2,500ft that he had not been this high in months! (You have to watch him in the circuit as most of his flying time is 2m off the ground, at 110kts - at night!)
