A few years back the national gliding magazine formerly known as Australian
Gliding was migrated by GFA to be under the banner of the profesionally
produced 'Skysailor'.
Prior to this the gliding magazine was run by a volunteer committee, and
broke even as a stand alone entity.
Financial arrangements for the current combined publication are unclear, but
appear to involve all the pilot subscriptions plus a GFA contribution per
annum. With hang glider pilots not paying for classifieds whereas glider
pilots do, and so on.

The intent it is understood was to have a joint committee from both sports
look at the magazine, and options for the future. Such include further
migration to be a newsstand publication, possibly professional editorial and
graphics contributors, possibly a change in magazine frequency, and so on.

The current HGFA annual meeting minutes notes: (edited for length)
>Skysailor ....
>...that little work had been done..... outlined the proposed strategy to
>produce a magazine suitable for both participants and the public to be used
as >a marketing tool to increase participation...disappointment with the
level of
>involvement in the last 6 months, particularly given the focus and emphasis
>placed on plans for the magazine when the joint arrangement was renewed.
>.... concern that only 12 months remain of the 2 year commitment
>made by the board to continue the joint magazine.....
>....agreed that an agenda item for the next HGFA Board meeting be
>included to raise a contingency plan and timelines for action on alternate
>Skysailor arrangements should no concrete input be forthcoming from the
>joint HGFA/GFA subcommittee.
