Just to clear it up the silver "badge" is, was what I was talking about.
Just because the silver badge has for years been referred to as the silver C
by many people I have associated with, does not mean that we do not
understand what the silver badge is or what the C certificate is.

My point, which was so succinctly addressed by Mike Borgelt is that, however
we do it, people who are flying within their normal club type operations, as
opposed to seeking records, should have the opportunity to have their
achievments recognised by the sports "governing" bodies.

Mike is correct that it is very much a personal thing. While it is fine to
have recognition at a personal or club level, there are many who get
additional motivation, satisfaction from having their achievment recognised
by "an official." This would be terribly satisfying for young pilots
especially.

Though I understand the badges, I do not profess to understand the structure
of the "governing" bodies. It is my opinion that the culture of serious
scrutiny may have come from an earlier structure that was intended to verify
records (I may be wrong there) or perhaps from competition. I see little
need for such serious scrutiny of badge claims that are not records. After
all, if you cheat to get a badge, youre just cheating yourself, which I
think was Mikes point.

Why can't the FAI recognise such badges without such scrutiny. If they are
reluctant, then it is about time the GFA decided to have its own badge
arrangements. Which gets me back to my original point, if we cant convince
anyone to do it for all badges some of which many pilots will never get the
chance to attempt, then perhaps we can for the Silver "Badge" which is
within reach of  all young pilots at club level.
