I thought Robert's comments were put quite eloquently and I agree with the
sentiments. However one does get to the stage where the interest on the
obligation debt does get a bit too much. In these cases where the balance
starts to tip to the negative, people currently have a choice to either
stick with club operations or leave the sport. In my case I wouldn't have
learnt to fly without club operations but do feel I have repaid that debt.
I also freely admit there are others who have contributed vastly more to
the sport of gliding in Australia than I. So as the burden of club
obligations interferes with my enjoyment of a sport I love, I find I am
casting about looking for alternatives to Gliding Club operations to enjoy
the thrill of flying.
After all I'm only human.

What's wrong with getting professional instruction and paying for it up
front?
Besides after 36 years gliding (26 of it in club operations and having been
a club treasurer, president, club association delegate, Association Vice
president, airspace officer, signed out fellow members Form 2's, driven
hundreds of auto launches, given talks at cross country seminars etc etc)
I've had enough of the traditional club operation to last me forever.
