Yeah, we all received it, it came out via the list. If it came from your PC, then you wouldn't see it in your Out box - the viruses can send email without using your email program. The odds are that it didn't come from you. The viruses that are common at the moment usually fake the address they put into "From:" - most of the email system has no way of checking that. So all those virus scanning programs sending out "You have sent a virus" messages at the moment are probably sending to the wrong address. Viruses gather addresses from an infected PC's IN box, address book, etc. Then they send themselves out - To one of the addresses they've found, >From one of the addresses they've found. Sometimes it's possible to work out where it came from by reading the other headers in the message. The list server, lists.internode.on.net received it from this address: (102.021.dsl.brs.iprimus.net.au [211.27.145.102]) That doesn't help me narrow it down. It's someone using iprimus as their ISP. From the name, .dsl.brs. it could be an ADSL customer in Brisbane, but that's a guess. To go further we'd have to contact iprimus and ask who was using that address at that time. What to do about all this? * Don't click on attachments! Unless you are really, really sure what they are. If you don't know, don't click. * You cannot trust the From: in an email. Don't use it to decide whether an email is innocent or not. * Have your email scanned for viruses wherever you can. On your PC, on your company's mailserver, on your ISP's mailserver, etc. * Keep your anti virus software up-to-date.
