Quite common these days, I am afraid. The low
life who generate viruses now make them use both "from" and "to" addresses
from the address book of an infected computer. Thus the virus-laden email didn't
necessarily come from you, but from another computer which happened to have your
address in its address book.
I would have thought that "System Attendant" would
have known this, but it is probably an automatic response which hasn't been
updated to say the virus "Apparently" came from you. The message is
probably still worth sending, as there is a possibility that the email did come
from your computer, if it had been infected, and this should cause you to do a
scan with your anti-virus program, just in case.
I don't know enough about the email system to say
whether a malicious program could send virus-laden emails without them appearing
in your "sent" folder, but I suspect it could happen.
Cheers, John G
