Stuart, Cath
I too still have the original green fabric covered folder with DCA on it (and the UK Board of Trade Licence that's the same size as the new one CASA is issuing currently). The DCA one is still valid, as is the credit card one - but the credit card format had the disadvantage of not containing your list of ratings and endorsements - so it falls short of the international standard, which is why these were changed.
The new licences issued now include a photo ID page with all the latest security devices - except that somebody else (with a poor security record and a bad case of paranoia) doesn't want to accept it and wants to issue their own instead at great cost to the holder. At least our licences are valid for life - the UK ones are now issued for 10 years (mine was for 5) and the ID photo is also valid for 5 years, the same as my car driver's licence with a different photo ID.
I keep the new green folder licence with the security ID photo in my flight bag, and the plastic card and medical certificate in my wallet, along with the driver's licence and most of the pilot certificates from the other sport aviation organisations.

Except they keep changing the format of my GA licence ;)
Used to be a credit card, then a green folder. I've heard a rumour that its changed again but haven't caught up with the change yet.
