Having just recently gone to the optometrist with my kids, and deciding to get a check-up myself, I discovered I have mild astigmatism (unequally curved eye optics that give a slight blur). I've had it all my life it sees, but only when the optometrist put me through the paces, switching all those lenses around in that contraption they put in front of your eyes, did I really notice how much better my vision could be.

Yeah, me too. I've been prescribed Johnson & Johnson "Accuvue Toric" contact lenses, which have astigmatic correction. Only useful for mild to intermediate astigmatism, though: if it gets too bad, the lens material ends up being too thick to be comfortable in the eye.

(I mention this because astigmatism often worsens with age)
