I don't think our limited marketing resources should be used in targeting ex
glider pilots.
These people already know all about gliding and will have left the activity
any one of a number of reasons.
A small percentage return to the sport later in life, once the kids have
grown up, the mortgage is paid off etc. but they generally return of their
own volition, not as a result of marketing.

In my own case I learnt to fly and gained my C cert in the 1970's and then
did not return to the sport until 1991 at which time I had sufficient
disposible income and time. During the 15 years or so I was not gliding I
always had a yearning to return.

The majority of the the others who have left will decided that gliding is
not their thing and have moved into other activities such as ultralights
etc.

I think that any marketing funds should be directed at the uninitiated
public, and in particular to youth groups etc.

I believe that the ex-glider pilot group is one to which we should be
marketing. I have suggested this to the GFA (who would have the old
records of membership including addresses) but didn't get anywhere.

There is certainly paydirt to be mined in that direction if we can only
find the data...
