Quite clearly this Ducatti riding new member is not turned off by older guys
having fun.

I find these discussions frustrating, so I'm going to say this and then bow out.

You're obviously missing the point. I think Rob Moore might have in
his earlier response too.

As far as I know, *nobody* has any problem with "older guys" per se.

But you're clearly in denial if you can't see that most gliding clubs
have one or more "older guys" who are antisocial enough to drive away
new members.

You know who I'm talking about. It's the cranky old fart who inspires
other members to say, "Don't worry about him, that's just old <insert
nickname here>. He can be a bit of a bastard sometimes but he's ok
when you get to know him."

Unfortunately the effort required to get to know him far exceeds the
effort the average AEF is prepared to invest. As long as everyone
continues to make excuses for the guy, he'll keep insulting the
intelligence of visitors, inspiring them think, "Hold on. I've just
spent nearly a hundred bucks to let this arsehole treat me like crap.
I don't need this." And that's the last you'll ever see of 'em.

The sooner club members stop making excuses for these guys, and either
pressure them to change their ways or get them to piss off, the better.
These people, possibly numbering only a few dozen across the whole of
Australia, are killing our sport.
