Sperber is simply german for sparrow hawk.

The RF4 and 5 were indeed as you say. The RF5B Sperber is a somewhat
different asircraft  from the RF5. The first two are more high L/D powered
aircraft the RF5B actually envisaged turning the engine off now and again.
